For a long time, I've tried to figure out why I've been so lazy. Coming here, it's apparent: it's part of my DNA. We really punish ourselves in the states: here, no one gets up before 9 am. And that's to get some tea. And read the paper. People amble into work somewhere between 10 and 11 am, leave at noon for lunch and a nap (!), get back to work at 3, and leave between 4 and 5.
Now granted, it's not the most productive environment, and I'm starting to think that Indians have voluntarily taken the 3rd world path in exchange for everyday satisfaction. It's not a bad idea; I mean, I'm 25 and worry about my 401k. Which is pretty odd. But it's nice to know that there's a reason I get places 2 hours late.
I'll take some pictures someday. When I feel like it. If I have the time. And the interest. Because honestly, I might just do a whole lot of nothing for a long time; I'm already thinking about extending my trip... being lazy in a place where productivity is all-important (U.S.) keeps you sharp because you kind of have to work hard to keep others from seeing you lazy, but doing it where productivity is the strange reincarnation of an unwelcome foreign devil god who's bent on human destruction is downright refreshing. I'm like a salmon who's come back, and seen that all the other salmon at his home are lazy fools who are just waiting for the paper to come in, so they can spend the morning reading it.
If you ask the Indian Americans about their mass exodus, they explain it as the "brain drain". I'm starting to think the other Indians kicked them out for ruining the good times...bunch of type-A jerks! Get the hell out, and take your damned work ethic, greed, and compulsive hygiene with you!
